Dabao Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named as the “Dabao Shale” by Inai Y. in 1934. The naming section is located in the vicinity of Dabao Village, Tiaoshifu District, Benxi City, Liaoning Province.
Synonym: (大堡组)
Lithology and Thickness
Lower part is composed mainly of conglomerate and pebble-bearing sandstone, Upper part is sandstone and shale, intercalated with coal beds. Total thickness of about 646 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is in an unconformable contact with the underlying Changliangzi Fm
Upper contact
Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Sangeling Fm
Regional extent
Except for the Tianshifu Basin, an extensive distribution of the formation can be seen in the Majiazi area of Xinbin County, as well as in the Saima-Aiyang Basin of Fengcheng County. The thickness of its strata varies from 400 m to 800 m.

Fossils
It yields bivalves Unio cf. balbinensis, U. cf. uralensis; ostracods Darwinula magna; plant fossils as represented by the middle-stage assemblage of the Coniopteris-Phoenicopsis flora.
Age
Depositional setting
The formation belongs to fluvial-lacustrine and swamp-facies deposits, and is fairly good at coal-bearing capacity.
